Team History

30+ years of building confidence and camaraderie in the water!

Feel the Sting!

For the past 30 years the Wellington Stingrays have offered kids in North Charlotte the opportunity to participate in a fun-packed structured summer swim team that focuses on making new friends, learning something new, and mastering the various strokes.

Parents of all ages know how special the team is!

“I swam as a Wellington Stingray from the time I was 7 until 18 years old. As a former swimmer myself, this team means a lot to me and my family. When my daughter was born in 2015, I knew I wanted her to be a Stingray. She joined in 2020 & has now swam for 3 yrs. She’s not only learned to become a better swimmer but she’s met friends, learned its not just about competition, and has cheered her fellow teammates on. I had a son in December and I want him one day to also become a Stingray. We bleed purple! ”

“We love swim team! It is a place for our kids to learn vital skills and build friendships with other kids in the neighborhood. With many kids going to different schools, this is something that brings those in the neighborhood together. It has also been a great way to build community among the adults. I have met many parents and families that we don’t see normally throughout the year but connect through swim team. This creates a better place to live for everyone when we are getting to know our neighbors and their kids. It has been so neat to see the encouragement and support all the kids get from being a part of swim team. At the meets we are all cheering for each others kids, stepping in to help, working together, and building friendships. Swim team and community are just two of the reasons we want to stay in Wellington and love living here!”
